Miami International Airport (MIA)
Miami International Airport (IATA: MIA, ICAO: KMIA, FAA LID: MIA), also known as MIA and historically as Wilcox Field, is the primary airport serving the Miami area, Florida, United States. Currently it handles over 1,000 daily flights to 167 domestic and international destinations.
The airport is in an unincorporated area in Miami-Dade County, 8 miles northwest of Downtown Miami, in metropolitan Miami.
The airport is projected to process 77 million passengers and 4 million tons of freight annually by 2040. To meet such a demand, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved a $5 billion improvement plan to take place over 15 years and concluding in 2035.
